Rocky Mountain FAQs

How do you determine what you can and can't move?
At RMSM we have prided ourselves on having no real physical limitations. If it's man made we can move it! We have moved everything from a garden shed to buildings and vessels weighing hundreds of tons.

How much does it cost to move or raise a house?
Each and every project is unique, cost is normally effected by weight, size, distance of the move and site specific variables. A major portion of the cost is generated from the preparation, the loading and unloading of the structure. Each project is based on accessability, equipment and the time required for the project. Most commonly we've found that recycling your building is more cost efficient than building new.

As a homeowner what do I need to do to get started? What prep is involved in moving a house?
We recommend contacting the local building authorities in the city and/or county the building is being relocated to and ask if there are any regulations or requirements concerning your project. With each customer we reccomend you have your structure inspected(according to your local building codes.) Then, RMSM will do a on-site consultation to generate a good estimate for your potential project.
Before RMSM arrives to relocate your structure we need all necessary gas, electric, water, phone and cable disconnected at the street or off the building. RMSM will let you know at the pre-construction meeting what your particular needs will be.

Should I expect to have any damage to my structure?
A reputable mover prides himself on moving a structure with as minimal damage as possible. Sometimes it's a scratched gutter or a roof shingle may fly off. But for the most part our track record is pretty clean.

Will my landscaping be damaged?
Typically landscaping is secondary in projects like these. We always try to relocate and preserve the trees. Sometimes taking down a tree or two is necessary to remove or place a building.

How long does it typically take to move a building?
All projects are different. it could take one to thirty days. It depends on the size and scope of your project

Can you move a house with a chimney and fireplace attached to it?
Yes! But we suggest and inspection on all attachments before going through the expense of having us move it.

Are you able to move a sunroom, attached room, attached garage, or a porch along with the structure?
Yes, but sometimes these added structures can make a building too wide or too tall to go down the road. Most times they can be moved seperately or can demolished and rebuilt.
