The Historic Union Pacific Train Depot - Boulder, ColoradoWeighing in at almost 300 tons with the dimensions of 40X100 feet with the loaded height of about 30 feet, it should be quite a site to see it move down the road!
Rocky Mountain, the Owners and The City of Boulder have been trying to devise the best plan to move this fragile giant to it’s new location, which is only a few blocks away!
This isn’t the first time the Depot has been moved. Built in 1809 and land marked in 1979 the building served as a passenger station until 1957 and then as a bus terminal in 1973. That same year it came across the path of the city’s wrecking ball until the established group the Boulder Jaycees saved it! The Jaycees had the structure moved to it’s current location in two pieces. It sits in the busy Crossroads Commons Shopping Center right next to Whole Foods and Barnes and Noble where the structures aesthetics and economic use are being compromised.
So that’s where we come in…. Rocky Mountain was called on to move the building one more time! The crew of Rocky Mountain has been eager to get that building prepared and loaded for relocation.
The Owners of the building, the City of Boulder and the local Historic Society have devised a plan to begin the preparations of the project. The first step was to have the building structurally stabilized and then move it to it’s new location where it will be used for it’s highest and best use. Currently the structure is vacant . After the structure is moved the City of Boulder hopes to incorporate the structure into the Transit Village Area Plan so it could possibly be used for it’s original use as a transit station and hopefully stay in the Colorado’s public transportation route for generations to come.
Rocky Mountain and it’s crew are very excited and anxious to get this show on the road! |
